What’s RunGiving All About?

In 2022, Kevin Hopp launched RunGiving to elevate the concept of running for a cause. Inspired by the "Run It Forward Challenge" from running apparel brand ‘rabbit’, Kevin set a goal to run 300 miles over Thanksgiving week. It began as a solo mission, with a few friends joining him each day. On the final day, Kevin was joined by his former student, Molly’s friend David, and his running coach Meriah at Discovery Lake in San Marcos, where he surpassed his goal, finishing with 302 miles! As a result, 30 items from ‘rabbit’ were donated to Soles4Souls, making an impact both on and off the trail.

Kevin Hopp, Molly’s former math teacher, has a gift for inspiring others to join him on his planned 350-mile fundraiser in November.

For RunGiving 2023, Kevin set his sights even higher by partnering with Molly’s Angels Foundation. The challenge expanded to include raising funds for Monarch Schools – providing homeless youth with access to education and support. Every mile run by Kevin and his fellow runners contributed to the cause, resulting in $10,000 raised! Although Kevin fell just short of his 350-mile goal, finishing with 335 miles, the spirit of the event was stronger than ever.

Over Thanksgiving week, RunGiving 2024 united 1,328 participants who logged 20,401 miles—raising $110,000 for charity, split between Monarch School and Vista Hill. Founder Kevin Hopp will run 225 miles to benefit these organizations along with the Molly’s Angels Foundation, building on his 2022 launch of RunGiving when he completed 302 miles and inspired a movement of running for a cause.

This year, Kevin is pushing the limits once again to complete his 350 miles during Thanksgiving week. He’s determined to raise even more funds to support Vista Hill and Rady Children’s Hospital. As Kevin says, “Whether you run 1 mile or 100, every step counts.” Together, we can make a bigger impact in 2025. Join the RunGiving Strava Club, where every mile logged equals $1 donated—and help make every mile count during RunGiving 2025 from November 24-30!
